After Grade 12 graduation from Cupar School in 1974 Albert went on to receive his Bachelor of Social Work (1980), a Bachelor of Arts (1987) with advanced classes in English for an Honours Degree all from the University of Regina. Albert is planning to pursue a Master's Degree in English at the University of Manitoba in 2005. His extensive work experience has led to various positions as a Social Worker and Community Development specialist in Regina, Prince Albert, La Loche, Sioux Outlook, and Thompson, Manitoba. Community development in the north and working with troubled youth has been Albert's major interests during his work career. On the artistic and literary side Albert was involved with the Wheatland Theatre as a puppeteer, writes poetry and story fiction. He picked up the skill as a storyteller through his northern work experiences. Albert uses the storytelling genre as a means of healing through the creation of story concerning troubled youth and the braided lives that they lead. Mr. Ormiston has recently undertaken writing a manuscript on the Jake Badger story. This biography concerns a young northern Aboriginal male and his life on the streets that ends tragically. Albert uses storytelling as a means of offering challenges to Aboriginal youth in writing their own stories. |
