Damon was born in La Ronge, Saskatchewan in 1979. He is of Cree and German descent from the Mistawasis First Nation and Trampling Lake, Saskatchewan. Damon has lived most of his life in Regina having spent some time living in Montreal and Saskatoon. He is a practicing artist with works that have been exhibited in the Cumberland Gallery at the Legislature, Wanuskewin Heritage Park, the 5th Parallel Gallery, and the Exchange Club in Regina. He works in three-dimensional stone carvings, two-dimensional mixed media and computer-assisted digital art. Damon is also a writer who has contributed articles for the Organization of Saskatchewan Artists Council (OSAC), Indian Communication Arts (INCA) at First Nations University of Canada, Indian and Northern Affairs Canada, Planet S magazine and the Leader Post. In the spring of 2003, Damon graduated as Valedictorian from the First Nations University of Canada (formerly SIFC) with a BFA. He is the recipient of an Individual Assistance Grant from the Saskatchewan Arts Board for the play "Broken Bones". Damon has worked for the Mendel Art Gallery, CBC, First Nations University of Canada's Department of Indian Communication Arts and is currently the Alternative Education Art instructor at the Mackenzie Art Gallery in Regina. He sits as a board member with Common Weal Community Arts and is an active member for Sâkêwêwak Artists' Collective. Damon plans on working with youth through the arts. |
