Sharon is from the Little Bone First Nation in southeastern Saskatchewan. She is of mixed heritage; Saulteaux, Cree, Scottish, and English descent.
Sharon has resided in Regina for most of her forty-six years claiming that the city has taken away her cultural roots. Through this idea, she first started exploring her roots by enrolling at the former Saskatchewan Indian Federated College in 1983 in an Indian Studies Degree Program. Today, Sharon attends the University on a part-time basis and is close to completing degrees in Indian Studies, Indian Art, and Indian Art History. She currently holds a Bachelor of Administration degree from the University of Regina. Sharon has explored the visual arts with mixed mediums of oil, pastels, and charcoal, quills and beads. Other avenues of expression that have influenced her work would be through performance art and the traditional influences incorporated into modern dance. "I reflect on our history as a way of being connected to my ancestry" Sharon states. Her recent performance "In Search of the True Creator" expresses and explores the need to define our presence in modern ways. |
